Your Future Self Will Thank You SO MUCH For This...
Surprise, surprise...
Earners,
Apologies for the lack of emails in the past 2 weeks - rest assured we are back at it. I wanted to share a quick story with you as a simple reminder.
A buddy of mine, who's not exactly raking in the big bucks or a Wall Street shark, is on pace to hit over $9 million by the time he is 65 (he’s 25 right now). That’s if he doesn't put another dime into his investments from now on…
The expected value of his portfolio if he doesn’t touch it (assuming a 10% average historical rate of return of the S&P 500). There are two variance curves included as well.
My friend has always been pretty careful about saving his bread. A few years back, he decided to start investing in index funds. It's not rocket science; it's straightforward enough that anyone can get into it and is why I scream from the mountain tops for you all to get invested in the market.
The secret sauce to his future windfall isn't his paycheck or some stock picks, but his age and chill attitude. He's just in his mid-20s now, and the patience he's got when it comes to his investments is impressive. He will harness the magic of compounding, and it'll work wonders for him. I've been running numbers on long-term investing for years, and it still blows my mind how powerful this stuff is. I'm pretty sure that $9 million I mentioned earlier is going to look like peanuts compared to what he'll end up with, all thanks to his patience, the fact that he will absolutely continue to plow money away and the magic of compounding.
When you're grinding day-to-day, retirement can seem like a billion years away. But if you chat with anyone who's there already, they'll tell you life speeds up big time as you get older. One minute you're in your 20s and the next, you're looking back wondering how it all flew by so fast. It's a weird thought that always gets me thinking: "Where will I be when I hit that age?". All I know for sure is that I'm doing everything I can now to make that MFer have an easy life.
I want to encourage you all to do the same. Even if it's just a few bucks, get into the habit of putting something aside for future you. Given enough time and a bit of patience, it's mind-boggling what that small amount can grow into.
Earn more,
Nate
As always folks, I am not an investment advisor and none of this is financial advice.
